A Personal Approach

Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractors are experts in spinal health care. They will cater every treatment to your specific needs and condition. They have an array of treatment options and will determine the best treatment with the patient at the time of care. These may include chiropractic adjustment, soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation exercises, laser and other therapeutic techniques.
The World Health Organization defines the Chiropractic Adjustment as 'Any chiropractic therapeutic procedure that ultimately uses controlled forces, leverage, direction, amplitude and velocity, which is applied to specific joints and adjacent tissues. Chiropractors commonly use such procedures to influence joint and neurophysiological function.' – World Health Organization 2005

Rehabilitation

Activity has been shown to be effective for preventing or treating many of the most common chronic ailments in our society today. At St. Anne's Rd Chiropractic, we can provide patients with specifically tailored rehabilitation exercise programs with the goal to restore function. The evidence in favour of reactivation exercise for spine patients is strong, including low back pain, neck pain and whiplash injury. Deconditioning normally accompanies acute low back pain and preventing this has been shown to reduce recurrence rates.

LiteCure Class IV ColdLaser Therapy

What is Laser Therapy?
Laser Therapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near infrared) for therapeutic effects (improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation, and decreased swelling)

How is our Laser treatment different than other Laser treatments?
The majority of lasers on the market today have a power range from .005 W to .5 W, making them a Class "IIIB" Cold Laser. Our FDA approved LiteCure Laser emits a power range from 1 W to 10 W making it a Class IV Laser and several thousand times more powerful than most other therapeutic Lasers.

What types of conditions can be treated with Class IV Laser?
Common conditions treated include: neck pain, low back pain, disc herniations, sciatica, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, tendonitis, arthritis, sprains and strains, plantar fascitiis, heel spurs, and fibromyalgia. Lasers have been shown to reduce pain and inflammation, stimulate nerve regeneration, and result in muscle relaxation and tissue healing.

Can it be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment?
Yes, Laser Therapy is even more effective when combined with other forms of therapy.

Side effects? Contraindications? What does a treatment feel like?
Laser Therapy is very safe and there are no known side effects. Lasers have no effect on normal tissues, as photons of light are only absorbed and utilized by the cells that need them. Laser Therapy is not recommended, however, for patients who are taking light sensitive drugs or who are pregnant. We also do not perform Laser Therapy over an area that has been injected with steroids within 7 days. It is not to be used over eyes. There are certain instances where the doctor may not recommend Laser Therapy on pediatric patients. It cannot be used on patients with active forms of cancer. Laser Therapy does not hurt.

How many treatments will be required and how long does each treatment take?
Chronic problems and/or deep-seated conditions may take as many as 10 treatments. If there is no improvement after six sessions, we would most likely discontinue further treatment.

Soft Tissue Therapies

An assessment is performed to determine what muscle imbalances and deficiencies are present and then specialised techniques are performed to help restore muscles to their optimal length, tone and strength.

TENS/IFC Electrical Treatments

This form of therapy applies low-medium frequency electrical currents through the skin to help increase localised blood flow to improve healing, reduce swelling and pain and relax muscle spasm.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy is the application of high frequency sound waves to increase blood supply to help promote healing. It may also reduce pain and soften scar tissue.
